Hey Chad, First off, may I ask, is this an epigram? If so, I think it's an intriguing choice for your theme because epigrams are usually supposed to humourous and show wit. I think this poem is definitely poignant though. It clearly transmits the the message the dead send to the living. It's a sombre poem...and somewhat foreboding too. Fabulous choice!
A great poem Chad. Full of sadness, but, it manages to bring a bit of light as it mentions, "for their tomorrow", which indicates that there was a greater good. A fantastic poem choice.
It is definitely original to see an epitaph included in a blog entry. I found this poem interesting because you have to read it over and really think about what it is trying to communicate in memory of the deceased to figure out who it is addressed to. I'm also pretty sure, StarrySkyes, that the epitaph is an elegy for inscription on a gravestone, so humour could be inappropriate.
Great poem Chad! I think it really captures (what I understand to be) the motivation of a soldier in war and how they would justify what they've done. Good job. Also, where's my chicken?
